Later this month, Cape Fear Community College will expand its course offerings in auto body repair to residents in Pender County.
CFCC will offer four classes in collision repair and refinishing at the Pender County Schools Bus Garage facility in Burgaw.
Classes will begin on January 22 and are taught five days a week. The courses include painting and refinishing, non-structural damage repair, structural damage repair, and MIG welding.
The college currently runs both day and evening classes in auto body repair at its downtown Wilmington Campus at the corner of Walnut and Third streets.
The program is designed to train students in the use of equipment and materials of the auto body repair trade. The students study the construction of the automobile body and techniques of auto body repair, rebuilding, and refinishing. The course work includes auto body fundamentals, industry overview, and safety. Students will perform hands-on repairs in the areas of non-structural and structural repairs, welding, plastics and adhesives, refinishing, and other related areas.
Graduates of the program should qualify for entry-level employment opportunities in the automotive body and refinishing industry. Graduates may find employment with franchised, independent garages, or they may become self-employed.
Interested students should contact instructor Aimee Abeyta at (910) 259-0154 and complete a new student application at www.cfcc.edu.
