What would happen if you had a secret list of special techniques to help you easily deal with some of life?s craziness? Many tips and techniques have been invented through time as ways for us to deal with the frustrations and disappointments of everyday life. Plenty of these special techniques are available in books and other literature, but you need to find the right techniques that work for you. Each person is unique and responds to something different, and unfortunately, the same technique doesn?t always work in different situations. Following are some valuable tips to add to your list. Integrate them into your routine and get closer to finding the permanent tips that work for you. Click here to know more about dating?tips?for?guys now.

Don?t be afraid to ask for help. This can be one of the most important things to know on your self help journey. Asking for help from those around you who are qualified is in fact a sign of strength. You get the benefit of someone who is objective and a bit more experienced than you are.

Using everyday things in your environment as positive tools will energize you toward your personal development goals. Listening to your favorite song may add ten minutes to your workout time or put you in the mood to spend an extra half hour plugging away at a project. There are a million little things in our lives that influence us in such a good way that they can mean the difference between achieving or not so utilize each of them to your advantage at every opportunity.

Act on your wisdom and live through your actions. It is only worth so much to gain knowledge and understanding. How you act on that wisdom defines you. Others cannot see inside to know your level of understanding, yet they can see your actions and how they benefit society, individuals or the world as a whole.

If you want to become a better person, do not be afraid to solicit honest feedback from others. Sometimes, you cannot see your own weaknesses because you do not have an objective view of yourself. Honest feedback from others can be constructive and can help you identify areas that you need to improve.

If you?re thinking about going along for the journey of self help, it is of utter importance that you do not receive any misguiding information. You always want get the knowledgeable advice that you deserve. Otherwise, you may not end up staying positive throughout the process and giving up before you have fully healed yourself.

Consider another perspective when you are tempted to let loose on the offending party. Before you act harshly, ask yourself whether your reaction would be appropriate if you were in the other person?s position. There is a good chance that you can come up with a past incident in which you made the exact same mistake. Would your response be appropriate?

If you suffer from anxiety and constant worrying, consider allocating a small portion of every day in which you can mull over your problems and concerns. Make a conscious effort to relegate anxieties and worrisome thoughts to this limited space, whether it is after work or during your daily trip to the gym. You will not be avoiding your problems, but you will be setting them aside so that they do not compromise your productivity and mental focus.

You should always be ready to stand up for your values. You might feel that your values are being challenged everyday, and sometimes it can seem difficult to be honest and caring. However, you need to stay strong and defend your values. This is the only way to prevent yourself from succumbing to something that you will later regret.

Concentrate on getting through one day at a time. Sometimes, in the very beginning of trying to stop a bad habit or to implement better behavior we have to think in even smaller time increments. Very few people can make big changes all at once and be one-hundred percent successful.

Assess your life and decide what things are working and which ones are not. Don?t spend your time kicking yourself for the things that haven?t been working. Look at them objectively, and find ways to learn from them. Imagine how you would counsel a friend to do things differently. Become a detective and a problem solver.

One of the most important tips to self development is to practice selflessness. If you take some time out of everyday to help someone or just show them that you care, you will begin to see the true self within you. Make small sacrifices to begin the journey of self development.

With personal development, make sure that you only surround yourself with people who contribute to your overall well being. This is important because it is possible to let your peers bring you down if you let them. Make sure that you build up a good group of like minded peers to help you accomplish your overall goals.

Try your best to keep a positive attitude everyday. No matter how bleak things can sometime look or be, keeping positive can help you get through the bad times. You can also get so much more done when you have a positive outlook on the task or the outcome of the tasks.

Always be yourself, and make sure you are the best you can be of yourself. In a world where certain styles and other trends can keep us motivated to be something we are not, we must concentrate on being ourselves. It is a good way to find who you are.

Because each individual is unique, the possibilities for personal development may seem almost infinite. Don?t let this vastness hold you back. The tips you have just read can help you define your goal, but only you can formulate the goal that is just right for you. Let these tips guide, but not limit, your efforts. Get the woman you want by knowing more about how?to?get?women today.

Gingrich warns of role of 'secular left'

CUMMING, Ga. (AP) ? Newt Gingrich warned members of a Georgia church Sunday that the "secular left" is trying to undermine American principles established by the Founding Fathers as he sought to rejuvenate his presidential bid in his home state.

The former House speaker is bypassing Tuesday's Republican presidential primaries in Michigan and Arizona and spending most of the week in Georgia, which he represented in Congress for 20 years. Gingrich said at a church north of Atlanta that Americans have faced a "50-year assault" by those trying to alienate people of faith.

"The forces of the secular left believe passionately and deeply, and with frankly a religious fervor, in their world view and they will regard what I am saying as a horrifying assault on what they think is the truth," Gingrich said. "Because their version of the truth is to have a totally neutral government that has no meaning."

Gingrich's campaign has struggled since winning South Carolina's GOP primary on Jan. 21, watching as Rick Santorum has emerged as Mitt Romney's chief rival. Gingrich is trying to regain traction in Georgia, Tennessee and a group of Super Tuesday states voting March 6, hoping to amass delegates to the national nominating convention.

At First Redeemer Church, Gingrich said the nation's founding was supported by people of faith, saying those principles were under attack by the Obama administration.

"You loan power to the government, the government does not loan power to you," Gingrich said.

The former speaker also criticized President Barack Obama's decision to apologize for the burning of Qurans at a military base in Afghanistan. The incident has led to violent riots in Afghanistan, in which four U.S. soldiers have been killed.

Gingrich said George Washington would not have apologized for an incident that led to the killing of young Americans. "We are supposed to apologize to those who are killing us? I don't think so," Gingrich said to applause.

At the outset, the thrice-married Gingrich told a few thousand congregants that he was not speaking to them "as a religious leader, and I don't come here as a saint," referencing the attention that his previous marriages gained earlier in the campaign.

"I come here as a citizen who has had a life that at times has fallen short of the glory of God, who has had to seek God's forgiveness and had to seek reconciliation," Gingrich said.

Gingrich travels Monday to Tennessee, where he will attend campaign events in Nashville, and then return to Georgia for a bus tour around the state. He has said a win in Georgia is critical to his presidential bid but has stopped short of saying it would end his campaign, stating the Republican contests are likely to extend deep into the spring.

Ca School Teacher Union Dirty Tactics

In an effort to give citizens more control California voters passed a schoool recapture law that says if 50% of the parents sign a petition, the school can be closed and converted to a charter school.

Unions are now using threats of deportation and any other tactic they can to get names off of ballots. Courts are going to chew them up and spit them out as this works it way through the courts.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...128401994.html

Quote:

SoCal earns this dubious distinction largely because of the educational establishment's rage over "parent trigger," a reform that's been on California's books since January 2010. It's a "lynch mob provision," declared Marty Hittelman, president of the powerful California Federation of Teachers. Why? Because it gives unprecedented rights to parents whose children are stuck in failing public schools. If more than 50% sign a petition, they can force a school closed, shake up its administration, or turn it into a charter.

The first parent trigger was pulled in December 2010 at Compton's McKinley Elementary School. Immediately, McKinley teachers began leaning on parents to rescind their signatures?first at a PTA meeting, then by pressuring their kids during school. Soon the school district insisted that parents validate their signatures by appearing at McKinley with official photo identification?naked intimidation of those who were undocumented immigrants and a violation of the First Amendment, said Los Angeles Superior Court. Yet the district persisted, soon rejecting every parent's signature on technicalities that are still tied up in court a year later.

Which brings us to the latest brawl, in the small Mojave Desert town of Adelanto, 80 miles northeast of L.A. That's where a second group of California parents recently submitted a trigger petition?for Desert Trails Elementary, where two-thirds of sixth-graders failed state exams in English and math last year. The 450-plus parents looked poised to succeed until Tuesday night, when the educational empire struck back.

At a public meeting, the Adelanto school board announced that, upon review, the trigger petition represented only 48% of parents?not the 70% that petitioners claimed when they filed last month. The loss of nearly 100 signatures, it turns out, was the result of a systematic and legally questionable pressure campaign waged against parents.

"About two weeks ago, the California Teachers Association flew in a cadre of paid operatives from Sacramento," says Ben Austin of Parent Revolution, the liberal activist group that conceived of parent trigger and has supported the campaigns in Compton and Adelanto. "Suddenly parents were accosted in the parking lot by CTA operatives blocking cars from moving until the driver agreed to take a flier plastered with lies." Operatives also went door-to-door across Adelanto.

Mr. Austin says many parents were told that if they didn't rescind their signatures, Desert Trails would be closed within days. Others heard that all the teachers would be fired, and still others had their picture taken for refusing to rescind. One parent on Thursday told Parent Revolution's lawyers that she withdrew her signature after being told that if she didn't, other parents "were going to pocket all the money once they took over."

Quote:

Mr. Hancock adds that he and his wife were far less vulnerable to intimidation than were other parents. "Some of their citizenship is at stake?they might not be legal citizens?so it made them nervous." He adds, "They were threatened with the INS."

If this is true, it wouldn't be the first time: In early 2010, Spanish-language fliers surfaced in several L.A. neighborhoods warning parents that if they voted to convert a public school into a charter, they "might be deported."

CTA spokesman Frank Wells acknowledged that his union sent representatives to Adelanto, but he said their primary purpose was to hold information sessions for Desert Trails parents. The door-to-door rescission campaign was "parent-led," he told the L.A. Times, and "as far as us going around and telling people to do something one way or another, the answer is no."

Messrs. Austin and Hancock maintain their suspicions, largely because almost every one of the 97 rescinded signatures materialized over four days last week. That's either a feat of superhuman community outreach, or the work of people whose jobs give them ready access to the names and addresses of Desert Trails families.

not really shocked but I threatening illegals with deportation for complaining about school teacher performance sounds more like Alabama

Arts community demanding spotlight in Las Vegas - Entertainment ...

By CRISTINA SILVA | Associated Press ? Published February 26, 2012 Modified February 26, 2012

LAS VEGAS ? It's a desert oasis that hangs its priciest paintings on casino walls, where neon signs are a point of a pride and themed-hotels pay tribute to architecture's golden eras. Still, Las Vegas' cultural offerings have long taken a back seat to the glamour and crudity of its most notorious vices. People come here to party, the stereotype goes, not broaden their artistic horizons.

Now a new $470 million arts complex is daring to challenge that. The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, a gleaming art deco-inspired jewel in a downtown redevelopment zone, hopes to reintroduce Las Vegas as a cultural destination in its own right.

The five-acre campus will host touring Broadway shows, jazz artists and classical singers, as well as the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Nevada Ballet Theatre, two local institutions often drowned out by the wealth and flash of the Las Vegas Strip. In homage to the nearby Hoover Dam, the multi-theater complex features steel trimmings, geometric patterns, marble walls, scalloped edges and other 1930-style flourishes.

Much is resting on its March 10 opening. Business owners, elected officials, casino executives and local artists are counting on the Smith Center to bring new life to the city's struggling economy and arts scene. Nevada's brutal housing crash and hospitality-dependent workforce are behind the nation's highest unemployment and foreclosure rates, and community leaders hope an influx of art-seeking tourists will help broaden the state's appeal and job market.

"This will change the world's perception about the place we live in," said Myron Martin, president of the Smith Center and a longtime arts player in Las Vegas.

The attractions and restaurants along the Strip have for years cultivated a creative class of dancers, chefs, photographers and musicians. But until recently, there was no infrastructure to support them.

The philharmonic performed in a campus amphitheater where the acoustics were so poor the musicians couldn't hear themselves. Art houses shuttered because the city's blue-collar workers didn't buy anything. The ballet held its annual Nutcracker performance at a casino.

What's changed is Las Vegas is becoming much more urban. Southern Nevada's population grew by nearly 600,000 people in the last decade, and business and community leaders in recent years have pledged to make the city more livable to attract and retain white-collar workers. Tony Hsieh, the 38-year-old CEO of Zappos.com in Las Vegas, is helping to fund the Smith Center as well as a monthly downtown arts festival. The Mirage, Bellagio, Wynn, Plaza and Cosmopolitan casino resorts have also embraced local artists in recent years.

Meanwhile, the housing collapse has made the city more affordable for striving artists. With some studios renting for as little as $250 a month, galleries, playhouses and dance workshops are flourishing. There were 30 art galleries within Las Vegas in 2007. This year, 144 are operating, according to city records.

There are other signs of growth. Emergency Arts, an abandoned medical center converted into a cultural haven, has attracted more than 40 tenants, including artists, galleries, filmmakers and graphic designers. The city's four-year-old Shakespeare troupe is slated to open its first theater in April. And at least three museums are opening or undergoing significant renovations in Las Vegas this year.

"Every well-rounded community has an arts community that is part of the fabric of that city and that's exactly what is now happening in Las Vegas," said Rob McCoy, chairman of the city's arts commission.

City officials recently commissioned several public art projects. CityCenter, a retail and casino complex that opened on the Strip in 2009, boasts a $40 million art collection. The Cosmopolitan, the city's newest casino, has massive murals in its parking garage, art vending machines and an artist-in-residence program.

Tipsy visitors are particularly fond of the installations, and have been known to climb on the oversized sculptures, including a 9-foot stiletto heel by California artist Roark Gourley at the Cosmopolitan.

"At first we were a little precious about it," said Lisa Marchese, the casino's chief marketing officer. "We said, 'This is art. Please don't stand in the shoe.'"

The casino ultimately decided to let people have at it. The once shiny shoe is now covered with nicks and scrapes.

The Smith Center, a temple of visual and performing arts, is easily the most grandiose of Las Vegas' new cultural institutions.

Its inaugural season will feature cellist Yo-Yo Ma, author David Sedaris, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Broadway hits "Wicked," "Mary Poppins" and "The Color Purple." Its campus includes a jazz cafe, a children's museum, a small park earmarked for outdoor concerts and an ornate bell tower that has transformed downtown Las Vegas' skyline.

Locals seem eager to embrace the performance center as their own. More than 10,000 season subscriptions have been sold, exceeding the Smith Center's early projections. In a nod to the city's many low-income workers, tickets start at $24.

"We've been very careful to make sure we are not building something for the rich and famous," said Martin.

The center also houses several classrooms designed to introduce local students to the arts and promote academic achievement, a difficult feat in a state with the lowest high school graduation rate in the nation. On a recent morning, 60 teachers from area schools were invited to the Smith Center to prepare for upcoming fieldtrips to the Alvin Ailey performance.

The Las Vegas Philharmonic plans to perform its most ambitious pieces yet and expand to a 10-concert season under its residency at the Smith Center. An upcoming show will feature the score from Charlie Chaplin's 1931 romantic comedy "City Lights" as the silent film is projected on a screen.

"Most people in the world, in our country, don't have any idea that we have culture," said Jeri Crawford, president of the professional orchestra. "If we ever have a change, it will be with the Smith Center."

Flush With Tax Return Cash? Spend It Wisely On These Five Home ...

Is your tax return burning a hole in your pocket? It might be time to tackle that home improvement project you?ve been postponing.

Upgrading your space is a great way to spend the extra cash from Uncle Sam. You?ll enjoy a more beautiful and comfortable home, and at the same time boost the resale value of your property.

Of course, not all remodeling projects are equal when it comes to increasing resale value. Here are some of the projects that will give you the most bang for your buck.

Remodel Your Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of your home. It is a gathering place for family and a space for entertaining friends. And no home improvement project boosts resale value like a kitchen remodel.

If you can?t afford a major remodel, upgrading the kitchen cabinets is a great first project to tackle. Replace the cabinets entirely or save money by having them refaced or refinished. The latter completely transforms the look of your kitchen for a fraction of the price.

Remodel a Bathroom

Second to kitchens, a bathroom remodel is the best home improvement project for boosting resale value. When it?s time to sell your home, buyers will be looking for modern fixtures, plenty of storage and clever use of space.

A complete remodel can cost $10,000 or more, but you can start small here, too. Begin by paying attention to the most outdated features of the room. Replace that 1970s lime green bathtub with a modern tub/shower combo or swap that ugly laminate countertop for granite or quartz.

Build a Deck

Building a deck is a great way to expand your living space to the outdoors. Create an extra ?room? for relaxing, barbecuing, and entertaining family and friends.

The best part about building a deck is the return on investment. Even if you sell within a year, you?re likely to recoup most of the cost in the sale price.

Hire a Landscaper

Never underestimate the power of curb appeal. Your home might be beautiful on the inside, but if the lawn is ragged and unkempt, buyers will look elsewhere. Even if you?re not planning to sell, who wants to be known as the neighborhood eyesore?

Many people are surprised to learn that a complete landscaping project can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Start by hiring a professional to design a landscaping plan based on your needs and budget. Then you can tackle that plan in stages as money allows. Basic, naturalistic garden landscaping begins at about $12 per square foot.

Check out this MSN Real estate article for more ideas on how to save money on landscaping projects.

Replace Your Floors

Replacing your floors is yet another great way to transform the look of your home. Maybe the carpet in your living room is old and dirty or the vinyl floors in your kitchen are falling apart.

Replacing old carpet or vinyl with hardwood offers the best bang for your buck when it comes to resale value. If you can?t afford to do the whole house, start with just one room ? perhaps the kitchen. Or, look into lower cost flooring options such as bamboo or laminate.

Writers Circle helps improve creativity ? Griffon News

By Blair Stalder

February 24, 2012

Colorful compliments and helpful criticism echo in Eder 211 after students read the short stories and poems they have been working hard on aloud. English professor and leader of Writers Circle, Dana Andrews, throws out ?That?s good shit, man,? and ?You can?t teach that? to his ?veterans? that have been with the group for semesters.

(Clockwise, from left) Katie Walkup, Caroline Johnson, Dana Andrews, Ian Roberts and Matthew Kurtz work through a meeting of the Writers Circle. Photo by Alison Beattie

English professors Andrews and Meg Thompson were approached by colleague Patricia Donaher in October 2007, who had an idea to create Writers Circle as an extension of the Sigma Tau Delta honor society. Donaher knew Andrews and Thompson had Masters of Fine Arts in creative writing, so she thought they would be perfect for the job.

To Andrews, however, Writers Circle is not a job.

?It?s voluntary; I don?t get paid,? Andrews said, ?but it?s part our job to have service to the department and to the university, and it?s also fun. We get to see budding writers, people who have some talent, stuff like that, so it?s fun.?

It is fun and laid-back, which is why Andrews said Writers Circle is not a place where students should go to get help on academic papers. The point of Writers Circle is to help students improve on their creative writing skills, and creative writing skills only, which is what senior Caroline Johnson enjoys about the group.

?There?s a little more freedom [in Writers Circle],? the member of two and a half years said. ?You get to choose what you want to do, and it?s not a class.?

Anyone is welcome to come and bring projects or scripts they have been working on (whether it be one-act plays, poetry, short stories, etc.) for critiques from other students, Andrews and English professor Ian Roberts, who has taken over for Thompson.

Yes, critiques. Students shouldn?t expect to just get a pat on the back ? Andrews and Roberts are looking to help students develop their writing skills, and one cannot do that without understanding viewpoints from others. However, Andrews? goal is never to ?slam? someone, which students, like longtime member Matthew Kurtz, notices and abides by.

?[Andrews] gives criticism at the right amount,? Kurtz said. ?We make it a point not to say bad stuff for the sake of saying bad stuff. We try our best to be as constructive as possible.?

Andrews likes to see his students gain confidence in their abilities and take command in their work, and after reading a student?s piece, Andrews starts off with the negative comments and ends with the positives.

Kurtz says Writers Circle is all about self-improvement and said Andrews and Roberts encourage students to figure out how to fix weak points in a piece on their own. Kurtz also said the professors also have a lot of experience and provide insight of not just how to write a story, but how to make it presentable for publication.

Writers Circle takes place every Thursday at 12:30 in Eder 211. Andrews is a firm believer that there is a writer in everyone, which is why students don?t have to be in creative writing classes to join the group. Kurtz is a history major, and Johnson is a psychology major. Both students are minoring in creative writing, and they take time out of their day to write.

Ultimately, Kurtz believes Writers Circle is a good way to get feedback and improve on writing skills and thinks students should give Writers Circle a shot.

?It?s a good place whether you?re starting out writing or you?ve been working at it for awhile; it?s a good place for advice. You?re not required to come every week, and it?s very informal, so just come by and bring your stuff.?

How To Launch A Product And Make Profits With Network Marketing ...

When you are writing on your website or writing for a seminar, be unique! Make sure all bases are covered.

When you are recruiting or selling, feel free to nod frequently, but resist any temptation to shake your head. Body language is also key, and you must make sure that conveys a positive message. )

Review the program?s compensation plan carefully and do not join a network marketing program until you understand it completely. The ideal plan is one that gives residual income, multiple income sources, and higher returns overall. Your sales will refer back to your sponsor. This can be a good thing because they will be there to offer help should you need it.

Use the power of video to bring online traffic to all of your network marketing websites. Videos are very dynamic and memorable, and their long-term cost is limited to hosting fees.

When deciding what type of network marketing to do, pick a company with products that are of interest to you. Your enthusiasm for the products can be transferred to your customers, piquing their interest in what you are selling too.

Evaluate what you really expect to get out of network marketing. If it?s a hobby, you won?t need to invest as much time. Hard work and perseverance are the keys to success in any business venture.

Stay up-to-date with the latest news by following network marketing forums and seeking the advice of other sources online. You will find that there are experts on these types of forums that will be more than happy to share what they know, and there will also be people that are new to this line of work that you can swap stories with. Don?t forget to use these forums to reach out to other professionals in your niche, as well.

By joining online forums you can participate and learn a lot of information from others. You would be amazed at how much you can learn for free on these forums. Search the Internet for an online forum that you like, and invest a little bit of time on it everyday in order to pick up advice from other professionals in the business.

Keep meetings with prospective recruits under an hour in length. When speaking with potential marketers and clients about your product for over an hour, you will give the impression that the business will take a lot effort and work.

Know the ins and outs of your products. Really believing in your own product, helps to build confidence in your potential consumers. If you believe in what you are marketing, you will be more convincing to potential recruits. If you learn about the product enough, you will have an easier time being truthful and genuine when giving reviews to future client.

If your product is unique, it might garner a great deal of interest. You have to give people the opportunity to see your product before you can make a sale.

Never have a face to face network marketing meeting with a lead that lasts over 45 minutes. This gives the vibe that you are a busy person and successful. It builds trust and respect.

The financial experts agree that the calculation you should be using is your monthly spending times nine, the total being what you need to have on hand in case of emergency. Using network marketing, you can earn this money and much more.

Be certain that you have a firm business plan; however, allow enough flexibility to take the unexpected into account. Determine how much you must achieve within in a given time period, then assess how feasible those goals are. Use your business plan to calculate a satisfactory and profitable goal from the gap between these two numbers.

Make a board that contains all of your goals to focus on in network marketing. What are the goals and objectives that you wish to accomplish in the short-term and long-term? Do you want to buy a mansion, a fast car, or a yacht?

Sometimes dealing with a prospect initially can be through your phone?s answering machine, so don?t forget about using it wisely. The first impression left by your automated answering machine should be succinct, to the point, positive and not drawn out. Include what type of information you would like them to leave for you, and a resonable time frame in which they should expect a response.

A great piece of advice in helping you improve your network marketing success is to keep an open mind. You?ll be better equipped to handle business when you keep an open mind.

Whenever you?re talking to a lead who appears to be interested in joining your network marketing team, let him know in no uncertain terms that your only goal is to help him. Convince them that the system will improve their life by bringing them peace and money.

Big companies utilize network marketing as one method to get to an audience through your business, and the network of contacts you can provide them. Implement these tips to help start you off and realize success in the field of network marketing.

Poll: Santorum surges, Obama leads Republicans

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A surging Rick Santorum is running even with Mitt Romney atop the Republican presidential field, but neither candidate is faring well against President Barack Obama eight months before Americans vote, a new survey shows.

Obama tops 50 percent support when matched against each of the four GOP candidates and holds a significant lead over each of them, according to the Associated Press-GfK poll. Republicans, meanwhile, are divided on whether they'd rather see Romney or Santorum capture the nomination, with Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul lagging behind. It's a troubling sign for the better-funded Romney as the GOP race heads toward crucial votes in his home state of Michigan, in Arizona and in an array of states on Super Tuesday, March 6.

"I'd pick Santorum, because it seems Romney may be waffling on a few issues and I'm not sure I trust him," said Thomas Stehlin, 66, of St. Clair Shores, Mich. He thinks the Detroit-born son of a Michigan governor is facing a strong challenge from Santorum in his home state because of his tangled answers on the auto industry bailout.

Also, he says, there's this: Romney, the self-described can-do turnaround artist of the corporate world and the troubled Salt Lake City Olympics, with his millions of dollars, has been unable to vanquish his political opponents.

"That may be the reason right there," said Stehlin, a retired government worker and a Republican. "He spends lots of money and he doesn't get anywhere."

Nationally, Republicans are evenly split between Romney and Santorum. The poll found 33 percent would most like to see Santorum get the nomination, while 32 percent prefer Romney. Gingrich and Paul each had 15 percent support.

Romney's fall from presumed front-runner to struggling establishment favorite has given his opponents an opening as he tries to expand his support. His Republican rivals have stepped in claiming to be a more consistent conservative and viable opponent against Obama, and each of the last three AP-GfK polls has found a different contender battling Romney for the top spot. But Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator and abortion foe, has hit his stride at a key moment in the nomination contest.

Santorum's spike comes as satisfaction with the field of candidates remains tepid and interest in the contest is cools. About 6 in 10 Republicans in the poll say they are satisfied with the people running for the nomination, stagnant since December and below the 66 percent that felt that way in October. Only 23 percent are strongly satisfied with the field and 4 in 10 said they are dissatisfied with the candidates running, the poll found. And deep interest in the race is slipping: Just 40 percent of Republicans say they have a great deal of interest in following the contest, compared with 48 percent in December.

"It seems like in the last month or so everything's just chilled out," said James Jackson of Fort Worth, Texas, a 40-year-old independent who leans Republican. "I just haven't been following it lately."

Santorum remains Romney's biggest threat. He won GOP contests in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado, stunning the GOP establishment that Romney has methodically courted since his first bid for the GOP nomination in 2008. The poll suggested more people are getting to know and like Santorum, with 44 percent of all adults saying they have a favorable impression of him, compared with 25 percent in December. The share with negative views has grown as well, with 42 percent having an unfavorable opinion of Santorum.

Among Republicans in that time period, Santorum has shot from 37 percent to 70 percent favorable.

There's evidence that Santorum's comments about social issues may not have hurt him so far among women.

The former Pennsylvania senator has been unapologetic in his opposition to abortion and his concerns about working moms, women in combat and contraception ? some of the many examples he cites while making the case that he would draw a clearer contrast than Romney against Obama.

For all that, there's little evident gender gap between Romney and Santorum, the AP-GfK poll showed. Santorum, who made some of the comments while the poll was being conducted Feb. 16-20, runs even with Romney among both Republican men and women. And Republican women may be rallying to his defense: Seventy-five percent of GOP women have a favorable impression of Santorum, compared with 66 percent of Republican men, the poll found.

The enduring split between Romney and whichever Republican opponent is up at any moment reflects a familiar dispute in the broader GOP over whether to focus on social issues or financial matters in presidential races. According to exit and entrance polls conducted so far this cycle, Romney has carried voters who called the economy their top issue in 4 out of 5 states, while Santorum has drawn broader support among those calling abortion their top concern. Abortion has lagged well behind the economy as a priority for voters through the Nevada caucuses, but the recent focus on social issues in the campaign could increase its importance.

Among conservative Republicans, Santorum holds a decisive edge, with 41 percent preferring him and 27 percent supporting Romney. But ask moderate and liberal Republicans the same question and the results flip: Forty percent favor Romney while 20 percent prefer Santorum.

Similarly, tea party Republicans also favor Santorum over Romney, 44 percent to 23 percent. Non-tea partyers tilt toward Romney, with 38 percent preferring him and 25 percent supporting Santorum.

Santorum enjoys an edge among Republicans age 45 and up, those paying the closest attention to the GOP race and born-again and evangelical voters.

Looking ahead to the general election, Obama holds an 8-point lead over Romney, 9 points over Santorum and 10 points over Gingrich or Paul, the survey found.

Notably, the survey showed the president dominating among independents, a group central to Obama's 2008 victory, whose support for him had faltered in recent months. According to the poll, 6 in 10 independents would choose Obama over any of the Republicans.

There was good news for Republicans, too: Any of the four Republican candidates would likely top Obama among those age 65 and over, as well as among whites without college degrees.

For their part, Democrats were watching with some glee.

"It's been a great show," said Karen Clark, 38, a radio personality from Raleigh, N.C., who's voting for Obama.

The Associated Press-GfK Poll was conducted Feb. 16-20 by GfK Roper Public Affairs & Corporate Communications. It involved telephone interviews with 1,000 adults nationwide and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

Stevens Point Brewery Investing $1 Million into Expansion ...

New equipment will increase brewing capacity to keep up with demand

STEVENS POINT, WI - For the third time in three years, Stevens Point Brewery is expanding its production capacity to keep up with demand.

The latest expansion ? a $1.1 million project includes nine new fermentation tanks, two new bright beer tanks, a new 7,000-gallon hot water tank and a centrifuge for filtering finished beer. When all of the new equipment is up and running this spring, the brewery will be able to brew 120,000 barrels of beer annually, a 20% increase.

Since 2009 the Stevens Point Brewery has invested approximately $1.5 million in new equipment and additional storage space to increase capacity and improve efficiency, according to Joe Martino, Stevens Point Brewery Operating Partner.

?Last year we added 6,600 square feet of warehouse space, five aging tanks and three fermentation tanks to bring our brewing capacity up to 100,000 barrels per year,? Martino said. ?In 2010, we built a 2,700-square-foot addition to expand our keg cooler room and add four aging tanks.

?We have our loyal customers to thank for our continued success, and as our sales continue to grow, we?ll continue to expand our capacity to keep up with the demand,? Martino added. ?We?ve still got plenty of room to grow and we fully intend to do so.?

The two new bright beer tanks for package release beer will allow Point Brewmasters Gabe Hopkins and John Zappa and their team of Brewing Operators to brew six days per week instead of five. The 120-barrel tanks, which hold finished beer ready for the bottle and can lines, will be installed by the end of February.

The nine new fermentation tanks scheduled to be installed in late March are vertical fermentation ?unitanks? and represent a first for the Stevens Point Brewery, according to Hopkins. ?Our new vertical tanks are twice as tall as they are wide, and they?re called unitanks because they allow us to ferment and age beer all in one vessel,? he explained. ?Vertical tanks also enable improved dry hopping of our beer. Traditional fermenters are horizontal and can be used for either fermenting or aging, but not both in the same tank.?

The centrifuge, which will arrive in April, will help improve beer quality and production efficiencies. ?We will be able to filter beer faster and improve the quality of our product in the package,? Hopkins said.

The new hot water tank will be used to heat water at the beginning of the brewing process and will be the first piece of new equipment to be installed, in mid-February.

California Workers' Compensation Lawyer Straight Talk ...

California Workers? Compensation Straight Talk

This article is one in a series of Workers? Compensation Lawyer Straight Talk articles. These articles are based upon 25 years of representing seriously injured workers. If you Google ?Workers? Compensation Attorney Straight Talk? or ?Workers? Compensation Lawyer Straight Talk,? you will find a whole host of articles where we provide you with great free and useful information so you can understand and win your work injury case.

Temporary Total Disability

California Temporary Total Disability benefits are paid to injured workers who are temporarily unable to work due to a workplace injury. In other words, if you miss time from work, you are usually entitled to receive a wage loss benefit ? which is called temporary disability. Or TTD benefits.

California TTD benefits are paid at two thirds of your average weekly wage up the maximum compensation rate. The California maximum Total Temporary Disability (TTD) benefits are $1010.50 per week (tax free) in 2012. The minimum TTD rate in 2012 is $151.57 per week.

Under California law ? you are only entitled to receive TTD benefits for two years. Which means California workers that are the most seriously injured ? ? are penalized under California workers? compensation laws. Seriously injured workers or catastrophically injured workers routinely take more than two years to recover. Which makes no sense ? but California penalizes the most seriously injured workers.

California TTD payments are not made for the first three days you are disabled unless you are hospitalized or unless you are unable to work for more than fourteen days.

Once your doctor releases you to return to work or declares your condition to be stable, the temporary disability benefit end. This is why company doctors send you back to work before you are medically able to do so ? because it saves the California workers? compensation insurance company money. This is another way that a company doctor can and will ? take food off your family?s table.

Don?t Take Legal Advice From The Insurance Adjuster

Know this: once you are seriously injured, you are at war with the California workers? compensation insurance company. Never, ever take legal advice from the insurance adjuster. The workers? comp insurance adjuster will oftentimes try and be friendly with you. Don?t buy it. They are trained to try and get you to trust them. And they are paid to keep you from getting the workers? compensation benefits you deserve under California law. You should be polite to the adjuster. Never be rude to the adjuster. Remember, everything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

This article is not legal advice. I am simplistic in order to achieve clarity. You circumstances may differ from those described in this article. Rare fungus kills endangered rattlesnakes in southern Illinois

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

A small population of rattlesnakes that already is in decline in southern Illinois faces a new and unexpected threat in the form of a fungus rarely seen in the wild, researchers report. The finding matches reports of rattlesnake deaths in the northeast United States.

The eastern massasauga rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus catenatus), a candidate for protection under the federal Endangered Species Act, suffers from habitat loss and environmental stresses wherever it is found, said University of Illinois comparative biosciences visiting instructor and wildlife veterinarian Matthew Allender, who led the health investigation. Long-term population studies of the snake ? in Illinois and elsewhere ? had never turned up evidence of debilitating fungal infections. But in 2008, biologists studying the snake reported to Allender that they had found three sick snakes in a park in southern Illinois, all with disfiguring lesions on their heads. The snakes died within three weeks of their discovery. A fourth snake with a similar syndrome was discovered in the same park in the spring of 2010.

Allender conducted necropsies on the snakes and identified the pathogen that had killed them: Chrysosporium, a fungus that plagues portions of the pet reptile industry but is not normally seen in the wild, he said.

"Chrysosporium causes disease in bearded dragons and in other snakes and it's a bad bug," Allender said. "We see it in captive animals worldwide, but we don't typically find it in free-ranging animals."

Chrysosporium also is emerging as a dangerous infection in humans with weakened immune systems, he said.

Shortly after he first presented his findings at a meeting of the Fish and Wildlife Service, Allender heard from other biologists about similar infections in snakes in the northeast United States.

"They seem to be having a similar problem in timber rattlesnakes in New Hampshire and Massachusetts," Allender said. Although biologists have sporadically identified Chrysosporium in those snakes, the symptoms they report ? facial swelling and ulcers and malformations of the jaw ? are the same, he said. These infections also occurred only within the last five years.

"Fungal pathogens have been increasingly associated with free-ranging epidemics in wildlife, including the well-known effects of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis on frog populations globally and white-nosed syndrome in bats," Allender wrote in a December 2011 report in Emerging Infectious Diseases. "Both of these diseases cause widespread and ongoing deaths in these populations that seriously threaten biodiversity across the United States."

Allender sees this new occurrence of a fungal infection in endangered snakes as a "yellow flag" that warrants more study.

"Wildlife diseases and human health are not that different," he said. "And often wildlife are our window into a weakened environment that leads to disease in both people and animals."
